Jesus’ first miracle was at the wedding in Cana when he turned water into wine. Many were amazed not just at the miracle but by the quality of the wine. What does this mean for us today, particularly as we approach the honoring of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr on January 20? Bishop Stoneking will share her journey as an LGBTQ person, pastor, and parent.
Bishop Kristen Stoneking, Episcopal leader of the Mountain Sky Conference of the United Methodist Church, will preside along with Rev. J.R. Atkins, the pastor of Aspen Community Church located at 200 East Bleeker, Aspen Colorado, 81611.
Bishop Stoneking is a graduate of Rice University (B.A.) and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (M.Div.). She is a former Fellow of the Pluralism Project at Harvard University where she now serves as an advisor.
As the episcopal leader of the Mountain Sky Conference, Bishop Stoneking brings a deep faith and belief that a world where all can thrive and experience the love of God is not just possible but promised.
Bishop Stoneking and her spouse, Elizabeth, have two young adult children, John, a graduate student at the University of Texas in the Cockrell School of Mechanical Engineering focusing on Acoustics applications with positive climate impact, and Paloma, a student at Occidental College in Los Angeles, focusing on Music.
The service will begin with the ringing of the church bells at 9:25 am then move into an organ prelude, a welcome, a sharing of scripture, a message from the Bishop, and a closing anthem. All are welcome.
